Shabra Charity Foundation Golf Classic a Huge Success

The Shabra Charity Foundation Golf Classic was held at Rossmore Golf Club on Saturday 28th August 2021 making a welcome return as things slowly return to normal.

48 teams took to the fairways in brilliant sunshine and this well-established event saw excellent scoring throughout the day as the teams returned their scores. The Rossmore Golf course was in splendid condition and received many compliments from the visiting teams.

The overall winners with a great score of 109pts was Paddy & Phil Murray, Shane Douglas and Declan Connolly. Their prize is a round of golf followed by B&B with evening dinner at the Moyvalley Hotel & Golf Resort. A truly fantastic prize and our thanks to the Moyvalley Group for sponsoring this prize. In second place on 108 pts winning a round of golf at Lough Erne Resort was Mary McEnaney, Pat Walsh, Ronan Loughran and Kevin Duffy.

Third receiving vouchers for the Shaun Donnelly Pro Shop on 103pts was Dermot & Garrett O Gorman, Joe Kelly and Michael McDonnell.

Fourth on 101pts winning a round of golf at Kilkea Castle Golf Resort Kildare was Neil McGnn, Seamus McCarville, Paddy McGlynn and Paudge Connolly.

Nearest the Pin on 6th Hole was won by Neil McGinn.

A special mention to John McKenna who struck a hole in One at the Par 3 12th hole.  

On the day there was a draw for all golfers who managed to hit the green on the par 3 16th hole with their tee shot. The prize sponsored by club Professional Shaun Donnelly is a one-hour lesson in the new swing room and it was won by Philip Cassidy.   

In the ladies’ section the winners from Fintona Golf club with a fine score of 99pts with the team members of Joan Hackett, Teresa O’Leary, Patricia McNabb and Iris Hanking. In second place on 96pts was Lady Capt Ann Lillis, Kathleen Hand, Grainne Connell and Sandra McBride. Third also on 96pts was Eileen Kearns, Ann Durnin, Nancy McKenna and Patricia McMahon.

At the presentation of prizes Rita Shah the charity founder spoke of the work done by the charity and the plans to raise more money to help purchase new machines to assist the gene sequencing programme. She stated that every cent collected goes directly to the charity and is donated to the cause. She thanked the organising committee led by John Heffernan, Kathleen Cadden and Marie McKenna assisted by the other committee members of Shabra Charity. She was high in her praise for the members of Rossmore Golf Club who supported the event in huge numbers and thanked the club for providing the facility to the Charity on the day.

Brian Clerkin looked after the barbecue after 9 holes and our thanks to Brian for a job well done.

The Golf Classis is certainly growing in popularity amongst all golfers in the county and further afield who are willing to support the charity while enjoying a great day’s golf and social event.
